Meet Our Staff
Dr. Derrick Mitchell, MD, FACEP
Derrick Mitchell, MD graduated cum laude from CSU Fresno in 1998 with a B.A. degree in Biochemistry. In college, he was a track and field athlete and 6 time Western Athletic Conference Champion in the long and triple jumps. He was also honored as the 1st Team USA Today GTE All-American. After college, Dr. Mitchell attended Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and graduated in 2002. He stayed at Johns Hopkins Hospital and completed an Emergency Medicine residency in 2005. Dr. Mitchell is an ABEM board-certified Emergency Physician who has served patients across Texas for eleven years. He teaches medical students and interns as an associate clinical professor at the University of Texas Medical Branch. He has practiced in northwest Houston and the Vintage Park community since 2008. Dr. Mitchell and Dr. Visser have created Medella Urgent Care to offer high quality, efficient and cost-conscious care for patients living in the community.When not working, Dr. Mitchell enjoys spending time with his wife, four children, and his Jack Russell terrier, Miles. He also plays golf, jazz trumpet, and enjoys the vibrant live music scene in the Houston area.
Dr. Christopher P. Visser MD, FAAEM
Christopher Visser, MD graduated cum laude from Tulane University in 2002 with a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering, and later earned his M.D. from the University of Texas Medical Branch in 2007. He completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at the William Beaumont Hospital in 2010. Dr. Visser is a board-certified Emergency Physician who has practiced in Texas since 2010, most of that time in the north Houston area. He is currently on staff at several area hospitals and emergency departments. Like Dr. Mitchell, Dr. Visser is excited about the opportunity to provide high-quality, high-value care to the Vintage Park and surrounding north Houston community through Medella Urgent Care.Dr. Visser is an avid world traveler, having visited over 30 countries in 5 continents in his lifetime, some for the purpose of medical mission work. He enjoys staying active (especially by swimming), reading, trivia, keeping up with current events, and (re)learning to play the piano.
