Convenient Ear Infection Treatment Offered to Walk-In Patients From Spring, TX

Doctor using otoscope to check grade school-age girl's earEar infections are common childhood illnesses, but adults can get them, too. Although some ear infections will clear on their own after a few days of rest, it’s best to seek medical treatment for infants and preschoolers to minimize the risk for complications that can lead to hearing loss. And even for older children and adults, professional ear infection treatment is likely to provide faster symptom relief and recovery from the illness.

If you’re in the Spring, Texas, area, you can get ear infection treatment without an appointment at Medella Urgent Care’s walk-in clinic in nearby Vintage Park. We treat infants, children, and adults during extended hours every day of the week, including Saturday and Sunday. We don’t require appointments, but you’re welcome to book one using our convenient online check-in service.

Types of Ear Infections We Treat

The most common type of ear infection affects the middle part of the ear, and often follows a bout with a cold, flu, or allergy that caused sinus congestion and swelling of the eustachian tubes that connect the ear to the throat. This congestion can sometimes allow bacteria or a virus to take hold, leading to infection. The symptoms of this type of ear infection include:

  • An earache, with sharp or dull pain that tends to get worse when lying down
  • Hearing difficulties
  • Fluid drainage from the ear
  • Fever of 100 degrees or higher

Less common but hardly unusual is a condition known as swimmer’s ear, which is a bacterial infection of the outer ear. It gets its name from its prevalence in children and adults who spend a lot of time with their heads submerged in water—especially unsanitary water. However, it can also be caused by scratching an itchy ear or damaging the ear canal with a cotton swab.

Swimmer’s ear symptoms are similar to those of a middle ear infection, except that ear pain and itchiness will be located closer to the opening of the ear.
